IRB CREW TRAINING
The Inflatable Rescue Boat (IRB) Crew Certificate develops the skills needed to safely operate as a crew member in an IRB and assist with surf lifesaving rescue operations.
Training is highly practical and includes IRB setup and preparation, launching and recovery, crewing techniques, negotiating the surf, patient pick-ups and rescues, emergency procedures and working effectively with an IRB driver.
IRBs are an important part of our patrol and emergency response capability, allowing lifesavers to reach people in difficulty quickly and perform rescues beyond the immediate shoreline.
The IRB Crew Certificate is also the first step for members interested in progressing to the Silver Medallion IRB Driver award.
