BRONZE MEDALLION TRAINING
The Bronze Medallion is the core qualification for becoming a patrolling surf lifesaver and is one of the most important awards within Surf Life Saving. It prepares members with the practical skills, knowledge and confidence needed to help keep our beach and community safe.
Training combines theory and practical sessions, covering surf awareness, rescue techniques, CPR and first aid, patient care, radio communications and signals, teamwork and emergency response. Candidates also develop their fitness and surf skills through practical rescue and scenario-based training.
To gain the Bronze Medallion, candidates must be at least 15 years of age by the date of their final assessment and complete a 400-metre swim in nine minutes or less before undertaking water training and assessment activities.
Once qualified, Bronze Medallion holders can become part of our volunteer patrol teams, helping prevent incidents, respond to emergencies and perform rescues when required. It also opens the door to further lifesaving awards, training and leadership opportunities.
